Why Be Good? (1929)

  • Cleveland Public Library, Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium 525 Superior Avenue Cleveland, OH, 44114 United States (map)

Colleen Moore’s sparkling silent comedy Why Be Good? (1929) captures the Jazz Age at its most effervescent, pairing Moore’s irresistible charm with a knowing wit that playfully upends expectations of modern womanhood. A buoyant blend of romance and social satire, the film follows a shopgirl whose irrepressible spirit collides with class conventions – only to reveal a tender heart beneath the flapper bravado. Why Be Good? will be accompanied live by the Cleveland Photoplayers, under the direction of Eric Charnofsky. Cleveland Public Library — Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium. FREE!
